Wella wella wella, now I seem to have a pretty lil dilemma.
mikey's FrankenPod ideas notwithstanding, I see a check today, which allows me to euthanize my butthurt iPod.
But, now here's the thing. Apple stopped offering the 160 gig model, which is the only one that allows me to carry my entire music collection in my pocket. I know I know, I'm facking spoiled. And admittedly, there are things on there that do not need to be portabilized; the yodeling sampler, the North American Frogs, anything by Journey.... don't tell me to lose the Shatner though.
And the regular old 120 gig model allows you to use the Genius feature on the go, which I like. I presume the Genius uses the Music Genome Project in some way, like pandora does.
Apple has a refurbed 160 gig that I could get. Wouldn't be here till next week sometime, but that's a minor quibble. Maybe.
Or I could hit an Apple store to snag (heh) a 120 gig right away, thus filling the aching iPod shaped hole in my life.
Arrrgh. my mind is shot that I can't make this decision.

I think you'll be most happy with the 160. Can't short yourself when it comes to the Tunes.
ReplyDeleteP.S. - am trying to get something awesome to send your way - I need to know your tshirt size plz.
That's the obvious answer. Order the refurbed 160 (or maybe two of 'em, gnome sane?), and get by with an old nano or some cheap usb mp3 player until they arrive.
ReplyDeleteThere's no doubt that you need the extra 40 gigs, so why rush to get something that doesn't meet your needs?
I'd still like to know if there's a way to get a new drive into an old ipod. Hell, it's not tough with a tivo, how bad can it be with an ipod?
mikey
yes, yes, you are right, you both are right. Instant gratification is like a drug....
ReplyDeleteIt's been over a week without my iPod, though, and work has been a deluge so the lack of tunage is debilitating, it really is.
But mikey, you really do overestimate my electronics skills.
Also, Tivo >>>> iPod.

ReplyDeletei am a largish zombie. Corn fed midwesterner, and branes are VERY fattening...
think a couple of XXs
Did you say you were going to snag snag an ipod?
ReplyDeleteO sure, snagg. you can have this one sitting on my desk here....
ReplyDeletepictured above.
ReplyDeleteActually, I have a 160 up for sale.
ReplyDeleteSay!!!!
ReplyDeleteShipping might be a pain, although I'll be south of the border in a couple of weeks...
ReplyDeletethe yodeling sampler
ReplyDeleteIs that Hollerin'? Cuz that's awesome. Suphaw.
MenD, in two weeks I'll be dried up zombie husk, clutching a butthurt ipod in one broken claw, poking at it with my last remaining fin-GAH....
ReplyDeletethanks anyway.
RB, I wasn't actually referring to Hollerin, although that is in the pile...
remember a real estate commercial a couple of years back where a geeky looking guy gets an album in the mail, you can see the title is "U2 can Yodel"??? he puts it on really loud, a kicking yodel/polka, and Beavis Dances while the neighbors put out for sale signs...
It was a real, actual album, not Bono yodeling but a sampler/demo by a guy named Kerry Christiansen. It is in the pile also.
And the North American Frogs is also way cool.
I am not much help in these matters. I just got a shuffle. It's in addition to my 160gb.
ReplyDeleteWhatever you chose, I hope it fits your needs and I like it as much as the sad Mac in the photo above.
i got 2 words for you, zombie...
ReplyDeleteArchos 705
it's no ipod, but it's quite the dealie!
aif, I had one of the older archos, back before the first ipods came out. I hated the interface.
ReplyDeleteI know they are probably different by now, but whatever. I like the iPods.
well, it's nearly fixxored. I found a 160 on the nets for about 3 bills, shipped overnight for 18 bucks. So I just have to get through the weekend....
ReplyDeleteanyone got any methadone?
the old archos was the DOS to the windows 7 of the new age archos. but the ipods are still a class apart :)
ReplyDeleteI never got one of the "classic" iPods. I have four nanos, so I load them with different stuff and decide which one(s) to take with me.
ReplyDeleteI also have a Sandisk Sansa that was given to me last year when I was doing a bunch of work for Sandisk. It's a crappy music player, but the fm radio, voice recorder and microSD slot make it a pretty useful tool...
mikey
mikey can't come through with the methadone, though? dang.
ReplyDeleteI upgraded to an iPhone 3gs last night, and the new one has voice memos and Pandora. as well as voice dilaing, and someone finally got a construction calculater into the App store, so the phone is now kind a digital swiss army knife for me. Plus, cute pictures of cats with amusingly misspelled captions!
There's next to no FM radio here that I care to listen to, so a radio doesn't do anything for me.
That hand model could use a medicure, btw.
