Now if there was a study of Religious parenting...

Can we finally put another myth down?

A long term research study has been released showing that children of same-sex parents do just fine, pretty much the same as children from heterosexual families, throughout their lives.

This time, the study was done properly, with respectable size samples, over an extended period of times, with adequate control over variables. And it reinforces the conclusions of previous studies: Children of gay parents are pretty much the same as any others.

This part in particular:
Teens with same-sex parents were identical to those with opposite-sex parents in almost every area analyzed, from anxiety levels to autonomy, and even grade-point average. It was kids' relationships with their parents, not the gender of their parents' partners, that clearly influenced their development. Those with warm, caring family bonds were doing better at home, in school, and in their social lives than those without them. Other studies have also found parental warmth - being a caring, understanding, and accepting parent - to be one of the most powerful forces behind the healthy development of children and adolescents, regardless of race, socioeconomic status, family structure, and sexual orientation. Gay and lesbian parents are just as likely as heterosexual parents to meet - or to fail to meet - their children's needs for healthy development.

Of course, as the article states, this comes as no surprise to people in child development, or, you know, PEOPLE WHO HAVE ACTUALLY OBSERVED these children, not just made huge illogical leaps of judgment based on vague references in a 2000 year old book that purports to be the actual words of the Big Invisible Sky Grampa.

And also, I know I'm deluded when I imagine that this may actually change the mind or dissuade the bigoted folks who like to use THE CHILDREN as a rallying cry in why Teh Gay must not be allowed the same rights as others.

See, the problem here is that if the children turn out pretty much the same as children of breeder couples, well, that might mean that the parents are pretty much the same. And, you know, if gay parents are pretty much equivalent to hetero parents, well, then gays might be the same as straights...and it's the end of civilization. or something.

Hey, it's good to know. Won't change James Dobson's mind tho. My preference is changing his mind with a stout 2x4.
