Unbelievable

Fox News does it again. I know, right? Though I should not waste time on this, I think it's a relevant topic that is ripe for the picking. First, please go here and review what happened that sparked this post. Later tonight, I will update this post with my thoughts.

Update:

Ladies night is a slippery slope. On one hand, a private business should not have the right to discriminate because it provides services to the public. Not to mention that private corporations should not elicit behaviors that continue social ills like racism, sexism, ageism, etc. On the other hand, there is the reality of free market economics. While this debate is important, it is not of particular interest to my concerns with Mark Rudolph’s disturbingly lewd decomposition on Fox News.

Rudolph lacks a certain academic je ne sais quoi that one would expect of a reputable media outlet. (I know it's Fox, but let's continue.) Or at least that appeals to someone like me. Placing to the side his Al Franken diluting the Kool-Aid comment, he makes strong statements about women and their reasons for going to a bar without any academic or economic studies to support his claims. Subjective debate is debilitating and should be avoided.

What is most disturbing in my mind is Rudolph's blatantant anger over the notion that women are sometimes treated to dinner or drinks on dates. He masks this in the bar debate while conveniently failing to address the reality that that women are institutionally encouraged to go to bars to be objects of the patriarchy so the bar can turn some fast buck from its male patrons ‘looking to score’. Ladies nights come at a cost to both sexes, the cost to women is arguably much higher.

The very fact that he serpentines this degrading and deeply alarming practice of bars is cause for action and my reason for pointing you towards the link. Then again, it’s Fox News where women are referred to as ‘chicks’ and ‘girls’. Not to mention that Rudolph is pissed off because he likely once paid a prostitute to go out with him while other men enjoy flexing their penis principle and hit the bars looking for the most inebriated women to mistreat. Why else would he make such an outlandish statement? However you dice it, the practice of ladies night is of no benefit to anyone.

  1. I saw that here.

Priceless comments. G. Carlson is usually squawking along with whatever wingnut b.s. is being promoted that morning, but even she can't handle the GOBP base in its ugly, frankest form.
