John Eichelberger (R-30) is the latest Pennsylvania representative that AG has to spend time outing. The Ducansville, PA resident (near Altoona) entered politics in 1995 after a career in the insurance industry. Staying true to the GOP course of hate and bigotry, he is currently sponsoring a bill in PA to re-write the state constitution to ban gay and lesbian couples from forming unions.
He and Daylin Leach (D-17) were featured recently on NPR talking about the gay and lesbian marriage debate in PA. Go here to listen to the podcast. If you cannot hear the whole podcast, here's the highlights you want to know about:
21:15
Leach: How would he [Eichelberger] want to encourage stability in gay couples?
Eichelberger: I wouldn’t. I mean they can practice whatever sexual activity they like to practice, but there’s no reason to give them special consideration. We don’t give them special consideration in Pennsylvania for any reason. Why in the world would we allow them to marry?
22:05
Leach: How would he want to encourage stability in gay couples?
Eichelberger: There is no reason to encourage that type of behavior in Pennsylvania.
24:20
Eichelberger: That comes back to the definition of family and that’s where we differ. We can call all kinds of things families. I mean, we can say a 3 party marriage is a family, or 7 or 8 people or marrying younger and younger children these days .
25:00
Host: Are you saying that by their very nature homosexual relationships are dysfunctional?
Eichelberger: [Pause] Ummmm. I guess I would say that. I would say that.
38:50
Eichelberger: This changes the definition of marriage, allowing same-sex, and then like I said, 5-10 years from now it’ll be polygamy, marrying younger people, it’ll be whatever…It won’t be a 6 year old, it’ll be a 15 year old, then it’ll be a 14 year old, then it’ll be a 13 year old.
49:40
Leach: Should our only policy towards [same-sex] couples be one of punishment, to somehow prove that they’ve done something wrong?
Eichelberger: They’re not being punished. We’re allowing them to exist, and do what every American can do. We’re just not rewarding them with any special designation.

Let the cobag propose a law banning divorce, if he's gonna be all 'defense of marriage' and that crap.

Well, lets be fair here. In many cases the American solution to a perceived problem is specifically to "not allow them to exist", as in kill them and wreck their shit.
ReplyDeleteSo on the continuum of human rights as drawn by the American leadership, "allowing them to exist" is fairly "centrist".
Of course, the two notable exceptions to any guarantee of equal protection are gay people and muslims because, well because we hate them and it should be American policy to fuck with them to the maximum degree possible, and they should be damn glad, because we always retain the option to kill them.
So there...
For me it's trying to figure out the logic of homosexuals marrying lending itself to someone lobbying for 12-year-olds to marry. I mean, only after the fags have their rights will a 5th grade expect his or hers. Until then, they just keep to the GameBoy?
ReplyDeleteI just don't follow!
I think it's the canard that gays are all pedophiles. They just don't say it as explicitly.
ReplyDeleteOh MenDee! I was reading a wingnut site earlier today and they were all, "Letterman's a pedophile." Maybe I am dense here but I do not know how they draw the connection. It's not linear in my mind.
ReplyDeleteThen again, I don't understand how any of this works like the argument about 12-year-olds or my favorite: "...Then they'll (who THEY are) will want to marry their dog."
These people are loons. Much like Iran, I just want to stay out of it and watch the train wreck TV from the side lines.
Clearly you haven't been paying attention. You haven't seen the tens of thousands of activists in the streets demanding the right to marry 12 year olds, dogs, horses, grannies or even some select inanimate objects?
ReplyDeleteDon't you ever read that monthly publication, "The Avacado", wherein the support for committed relationships with fruits and vegetables is explored with kindness and dignity?
Don't you ever notice the number of people who are "outed" for hiding their illicit love for their cars, pheasants or power tools?
How can you have your head in the sand over this? The overwhelming demand for equal rights and legal protections among people who just want to marry their farming implements is truly courage personified.
Excuse me, I have to go. I'm taking my fireplace tools to lunch...
mikey
So if "we are allowing them to exist", that means "we" are allowing HIM to exist, too. What a douchebag. Oh, sorry AG, is that a word you don't like?
ReplyDeleteHe is drawing conclusions to all kinds of sexual deviancies, not just pedophiles. It's his narrow one cell brain that is unable to fathom that homosexuality is not the same as a sexual predator or deviant. You know, he probably even knows people in his circle that are part of a same sex couple but aren't "Obvious" or "Out in the Open" about it. What's interesting to me, and outrageous at the same time, is saying that "they can practice anything they want", but has the mentality of "just don't do it in my neighborhood"...much like the old bigotry of the 60's. Sigh. Still so much to do in our society....
CR, I replied to your e-mail and sent my friend an e-mail.
ReplyDeleteIt won’t be a 6 year old, it’ll be a 15 year old, then it’ll be a 14 year old, then it’ll be a 13 year old.
ReplyDeleteYes, and then our marriage patterns will finally reflect those of The Bible.
Right, Brando. It's all cleared up now.
ReplyDeleteOh, AG, be nice to Brando. He has to live in Michigan.
ReplyDeleteI was being nice. He cleared it all up. It's about the bible.
ReplyDeleteGawd. Why are you such a h8er today?!
