Attention fellow progressives: Electing Obama is a proud step forward, doubtless, but he IS GOING TO CRUSH OUR HOPES. He is still a centrist Democrat, at the end of the day, and he will play the game. We will get some wins, but it's going to take work and continuing to beat these people with the idea that WE are their bosses, not AT&T.

He'll only crush our unrealistic hopes. For example, I would hope an Obama presidency would allow me to live in a country that doesn't have torture as a cornerstone of its energy policy.
ReplyDeleteEconomic policy, well we may not see a populist uprising. Even incremental change means improving the lives of millions of people in concrete ways, however. You're right we need to keep applying pressure, but at least the pressure has a chance of succeeding in ways it hasn't for the last eight years.
Unrealistic hopes like either party represents anything more than the corporate plutocracy.

ReplyDeleteBut in my view, at least Obama represents a corporate plutocratic representative that maybe, just maybe will occasionally remember that somebody out here needs them, has an outside chance to react to public pressure from the reality-based community, and is statistically significantly less likely to destroy civilization.
So you can see how I am constantly disappointed. Safer to bee a cynic, I know.
