...and I'm not coming back for quite some time.
I just found a pretty neat website: Wolfgang's Vault.
Digital access to all kinds of live shows, it actually has a performer payment scheme that nets more money for the actual artists, and lets you stream or download live shows.
Oh, my this is cool.
I'm listening to a Genesis show from 1978, recorded for King Biscuit Flower Hour. The 'new' lineup, Chester and Daryl are included. nice and clear, for a live recording.
There's lots of other stuff. free streaming. BOC from 76. ELO from 76. The tubes in 74. The Police in 79. Rush from 84 (that one's for Brando). Devo from 81. Boomtown Rats from 79.
Go try it out. And those of you who knew about this, why didn't you tell me? Huh?

It's all a dream, a strange and wonderful dream. Soon you'll wake to the sound of "Buy You a Drank." And then you'll kill yourself.
ReplyDeleteWhat an awesome site! I am laughing at my own geekness because I already have that Rush concert, or at least a similar one -- I bought the Replay DVD set that has the audio CD from that Maple Leaf Show (which was used for the Grace Under Pressure video). But they had a ton of other stuff I liked -- Police, some 60s Who shows, The Clash. I will be back.
ReplyDeleteYeah, thanks for linking that. That is damned cool.
ReplyDeleteOn a related topic, I saw Blondie play the Fillmore in SF in 2003. That was pretty cool. She/They played War Child for the first time in years.
How did you find the site? How long has it been around?! Very cool.
ReplyDeleteYeah Brando, I noticed that it seems like much of this stuff is available, if you look... The genesis shows seem to comprise the live stuff included in the "Archive" box sets.
ReplyDeleteA lot of King Biscuit shows. Not a bad thing by any means.
But it's free to listen to, and cheap if you download something, and the artist gets compensated, so I don't see a downside. Hopefully it continues to get expanded and updated.
I will look for a Celine Dion concert for Snag...
I probably don't have to tell BP this, but check out Elvis Costello from 1978.
ReplyDeleteThis is not addictive AT ALL.
