Atom Drum Bop

Ooops. Guess I haven't been too good about updating lately. Oh well. I apologize to my reader. Go watch an Olbermann Special Comment or something, it would be good for your liberty.

Word of warning: I'm feeling pretty aggro today, so the Random is not entirely Random.

But what the fuck, if Bush and his Baby Fascist Police State can throw out hundreds of Habeus Corpus cases for Guantanamo inmates (note to the Bill of Rights impaired: habeus corpus is what allows you, yes YOU, to ask “What the fuck did you throw me in jail for?” and the follow up “Prove it!” Kind of the cornerstone of our whole justice system. Pissed away by the Anti-America Republicans.) Then I can pre-select a few songs from which to do a Friday Random.

And I WILL be pulling the fucking lever on songs that don't fit in.

One cheerful note: A fed judge has insisted that the MalAdmin turn over the records of visitors to Cheneys House. That should be an entertaining list of miscreants, savage wingtards, and greed-flensed hucksters. My own personal frontrunners for most frequent visits: Voldemort, Sauron, and Kenny G.

5252 songs, 18 gigs of music.

1. What Is This Note? from the album “Souljacker” by eels
2. Ugly from the album “Viva Wisconsin” by Violent Femmes old school hometown.
3. I Need Your Love from the album “Subterranean Jungle” by The Ramones
4. Ignorance Is Bliss from the album “Brain Drain” by The Ramones
5. Useless from the album “Buzzcocks” by Buzzcocks
6. Cretin Family from the album “iAdios Amigos!” by The Ramones
7. Suspect Device from the album “All The Best (Disc 1)” by Stiff Little Fingers
8. Doesn't Make it All Right from the album “All the Best (Disc 2)” by Stiff Little Fingers
9. Punishment Fits The Crime from the album “Brain Drain” by The Ramones
10. Dog Bite from the album “Plastic Surgery Disasters/In God We Trust, Inc.” by Dead Kennedys

Slammin into the bonus five. Cuz some of those songs are like 40 seconds long.

11. Time Bomb from the album “...And Out Come The Wolves” by Rancid
12. Boot Stamping on a Human Face Forever from the album “The Empire Strikes First” by Bad Religion ow. That one hit the mark.
13. She's Calling You from the album “I Against I” by Bad Brains
14. Road of the Righteous from the album “The Singles Collection (Volume 1 1996-1997)” by Dropkick Murphys
15. The Handshake from the album “Stranger Than Fiction” by Bad Religion

Late breaking News:

Genesis is getting back together. But Gabriel and Hackett are not part of it, it will be the 'pop' lineup.

Nice try, universe, but it's not an adequate comeback. I would also like to point out that this international publication used the non-word 'orientated' in this article. So by Wingnut blog logic, the whole article is non-functional and, in fact, Genesis is an objectively pro-terrorism organization; ALso, the announcement just two weeks before the election aemns they obviously want the Democrats to win.

worthwhile to note an email from a friend regarding this:

Gabrial is a fag! What was that crap with his daughter anyway! A rip-off of a concert.
Do I need to point out how ridiculous and juvenile this is? Calling someone a fag as an epithet is so 1980's and junior high. And then to follow it up by mentioning the man's offspring, pointing out that the man is, most likely, NOT a homosexual; just plain goofy.

But even then, to allow a supporting singer to spoil his idea of what a concert should have been. I was at that show too, and Gabriel's daughter did not have that big an impact; even more,it was a fantastic show. If he allowed one performer to make it a negative experience for him, he needs to adjust his meds. Seriously, Lighten Up Frances.

  1. The disparaging comment is from a die-hard conservative.

    Obvious?

  2. Voldemort, Sauron, and Kenny G.

    That's a good name for a band.

Actually, those are the next recipients of The Medal Of Freedom from the Bush Administration.

I had no idea the Loon was a rightard. Guess you can only live in the burbs so long before it gets to you; like zombie-juice infects dead brains.

  3. I would not have recognized Gabriel if I hadn't known it was him. Though the eyes and mouth make a connection in my head after I knew it was him. He looks a lot different.

Anyhoo-- as a conservative, not a Republican, I can state confidently that you can not judge musical taste based on political bent. I used to be a liberal. I liked Genesis a lot-- both Gabriel and Collins era. I am now a conservative/libertarian. I like Genesis a lot-- both Gabriel and Collins era.

Ridiculous and small-minded people exist in all manner of political and idealogical forms. Open-mindedness, 'member? The Medal of Freedom comment, on the other hand, is quite good. It would be funnier if it didn't have quite such a feeling of ironic truth to it.

  4. Now, I'm not one to defend Zelmeister up there, usually I'm the one slagging him.

But I'm thinking he was referring to the use of inappropriate epithet in that email, not the subject mater so much. To many conservatives (not you, certainly, Nick! I would be honestly surprised if it were so) "gay" is a bad thing and handy way to denigrate someone. Especially now that most of the good racial slurs are proscribed.

I am looking forward to the reunion tour. I'm hoping they do a US swing. If not, I may have to make a European trip. I'm not kidding about that Z.

After seeing the Musical Box a number of times now, I would be maybe less jazzed about a Gabriel re-entrance, just to relive the old stuff. Re visiting the past is okay in small doses, for sure, but you can't live there. Pete's got a good gig off in his own world.

Now, if Hackett came back, it woul be exciting for the new musical potential there; he was a big part of the Trick and Wuthering albums.

Of course, I also said that Genesis should make Daryl Stuermer and Chester Thompson full time members of the band when Peelip left.

And you should be advised that I am apparently the only person in North America who really like the Calling All Stations album. But I will say one thing in defense of that position: The Return Of The Twelve Strings.

  5. Actually, now that I've had some caffeine, I think Zel-man's comment there was kind of pointing out the frequency and magnitude of overlap of the sets of 'Conservatives' and 'Bigots'.

  6. I realize that's what Z was likely saying-- just pointing out that painting with an overly broad brush oftens gets paint on the Tiffany Vase. Err... or something.

And I realize that to many Evangelical Christians, being gay is an offense, because they honestly believe God hates homosexuals. Others are just A-holes. But even then, there are plenty of rednecks out there that vote straight Dem tickets.

All I wanted to point out is that bigotry, stupidity and intolerance are not the stock in trade of any one political party or even ideological bent. And in the throes of a good snark, it is easy to lose sight of that.

I am highly jazzed by the thought of a Genesis reunion. A new album would be good too-- perfect timing. Phil just broke up with wife number, um, three? four?, so he's in prime writing condition. His stuff is dreck when he's happy, edgy and rhythmic when he's broken hearted.

Did not see Pete's last tour, but the one I did see many years ago now (12? Yikes), was probably the best concert I've seen. Except maybe the Femmes.

Spooky-- Driving the Last Spike just came on as I was typing this. Granted I have several Genesis albums on the play list, but it's still 20 hours of music. Driving the Last Spike is a fabulous song. The album as a whole is uneven, to be sure, but that song is haunting and uplifting all at the same time.

Where was I? Dunno. K, done then.
